FRNV – Kerala Chapter submits recommendations on the Kerala Police Bill 2010

On 21st September 2010, along with members of FRNV Kerala Chapter, Sri M. Ayyappan, Director met Shri. Ganesh Kumar MLA, one of the members of select committee of Kerala Police Bill and appraised him on the suggestions and recommendations made by FRNV on Kerala Police Bill 2010.

On 22nd September, a sitting of the Assembly Select Committee on the Kerala Police Bill 2010 was held at Government Guest House, Trivandrum. The sitting was chaired by Honorable Home Minister Shri. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Members of the Select Committee including Law Minister Shri. M. Vijayakumar, MLAs, Shri. V. D. Satheesan, Shri. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Shri. Jayarajan, Smt. Aysha Potti, Shri. Mons Joseph, Shri K.B. Ganesh Kumar, were also present along with senior Police officers including DGP, Shri. Jacob Punnoose. Representatives of various service organizations of Police officials retired senior Police officers and office-bearers of voluntary organizations in the district participated in the sitting.

FRNV Kerala chapter was represented by Shri. Narayanan, Shri. Lambodaran Nair and Shri. Unnikrishnan. They have personally met all the members of select committee including Chairperson and DGP and submitted 20 copies of the “Response to the Draft Questionnaire on The Kerala Police Bill 2010”. They have also submitted the suggestions in a concise form in local language Malayalam, covering the important clauses and need for implementing the Supreme Court directives on police reforms.

The select committee appreciated the efforts put forth by FRNV and assured that the recommendations submitted by us would be considered while finalizing the Act. FRNV Kerala Chapter is confident that the select committee will positively consider our suggestions and accordingly modify the Police Bill.
